About the Author
Dee Krull is a mom to one, step-mom to two, an "other mother" to one as well as a grandmother to seven wonderful children. She has a Ph. D. in Clinical Hypnotherapy for which she spent twenty-five years in private practice in Southern California until she and her late husband Chad, retired in 2000. She and her husband moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2005. "Dreams and Vampires" was Inspired by her late husband's love of science fiction and her own inquisitive nature concerning "what ifs." It is a combination of science fiction and fantasy with her own expertise as a hypnotherapist thrown into the mix. Dee wrote "Dreams and Vampires" in Arizona. However, when she decided to place her story in Arcata, California it rekindled her love of the North West and the peaceful solitude it has to offer. She now lives in Northern California with her cat Gwynie, where she is currently writing her next book.

Fast Paced Vampires with a Middle-Age Heroine!

It's vampire paranormal romance for the middle-aged woman! What I love about this book is that the heroine, Laurel, is a fifty-two-year-old clinical hypnotherapist. I cannot even remember the last time I picked up a genre book where the main character was over twenty. As a forty-something myself, I found this fact refreshing as I could relate to where Laurel was in her life. The book picks up in chapter two, intriguing you with a unique take on vampires, and a fast plot. I won't let out any spoilers here, but I definitely have not seen this particular twist on vampires before. Since the author has a PhD in hypnotherapy herself, the details of her practice come through and add a level of enjoyment to the read.
If you love romance, vampires, and are tired of reading about teeny-boppers, then you'll enjoy this book!

Very poorly written

The story was entertaining, but it was hard to get into the book due to the poor writing. The sentences were choppy, grammar was poor, and the pacing of the story was horrible - even for a free book on the Nook! It could have been a very good read had the author taken the time to edit and streamline it a bit better. The "ending" was more of the ending to a chapter, so I am sure that there will be a sequel coming out at some point. If the sequel is offered as a free book, I may start it to see if the writing improves, but I'm not holding my breath.

The first of this series is an introduction to the world and characters of Htrae. The story begins on earth with a psychologist specializing in regression hypnotherapy. Strange events occur as Laurel's patients begin having nightmare dreams after their regression hypnosis therapy sessions.

The first part of the book concentrates on character development of Laurel and plot set up for the second part of the book. The second part further develops the plot along with character development of the male protagonist, a vampire, as well as the heroine, Laurel. Htrae is an alternate world with vampires, werewolves, witches, and humans all of whom live very long lives.

This first book is more of a long preface to the Saga of the World Called Htrae. It is well written, but if you are not committed to reading the entire series then don't start this one. This is not a stand alone book. The end is not the end, rather it has an abrupt "to be continued" ending without resolution or climax.

I give this book a four star rating. The character development and plot background development for the series were well done and essential. The novel was not as captivating in drawing me into the characters as I would have liked. However it was interesting enough to make me want to jump right into the next part of the story. Adults 18+ because of explicit sex.

About the Author

David Burgos is Vice President of Millward Brown and the head of the Multicultural Practice at Millward Brown, one of the world’s leading market research agencies. He is an industry expert in market segmentation, new product development, and brand and communications research across the U.S. and Latin America. David is the Co-Chair of the Advertising Research Foundation's Multicultural Council and a past recipient of the ARF’s Great Mind Award for his contribution to the marketing research industry. A former professor, and co-author of the book, “Ciudad de los Reyes, de los Chavez, los Quispe," David speaks frequently about the changing face of multicultural markets at conferences and industry events. Easy read - current insights

This is a great 'crash course' on the state of multicultural marketing in the United States with a valuable snapshot of of international multicultural marketing as well. Great for anyone in the marketing world who realizes that straight translations and providing culturally relevent marketing efforts are not hitting the mark with the top three segments (Hispanic, African American, Asian). If you know you need to do something in this space and don't how, or if you're already doing it and you know you're not where you need to be, then read this book. I read it on the plane on a business trip. It sits on my desk at work in my collection of highly recommended books.

About the Author
J. Dan Rothwell is chair of the Communication Studies Department at Cabrillo College and the author of four additional books: IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS: AN INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION, TELLING IT LIKE IT ISN'T: LANGUAGE MISUSE AND MALPRACTICE, INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: INFLUENCES AND ALTERNATIVES with James Costigan, and PRACTICALLY SPEAKING. During his extensive teaching career, Dr. Rothwell has received almost two dozen teaching awards, including the 2010 Ernest L. Boyer International Award for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology conferred by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, Florida State College, and the National Council of Instructional Administrators; the 2010 Cabrillo College "Innovative Teacher of the Year" award; the 2011 National Communication Association "Community College Educator of the Year" award; a 2012 official resolution by the California State Senate acknowledging his excellence in teaching; and the 2014 "Master Teacher" award from the Western States Communication Association. He has a B.A. in American History from the University of Portland (Oregon) as well as an M.A. in Rhetoric and Public Address and a Ph.D. in Communication Theory and Social Influence, both from the University of Oregon.

I really enjoy this book, it's very simple to follow. It provides you with terms, definitons and examples. It also has photos, for you to visually see certain concepts. It's very fun to read and you'll learn a lot! I would recommend this!! I wish many other book's were this fun to read!

Alexander Zass was best known by his stage name, The Amazing Samson.

He was an oldtime strongman capable of snapping chains and bending iron bars. In fact, the legend is he was able to escape a POW camp by doing just that. From this and other training over his lifetime he was a huge proponent of isometric training.

This book, The Amazing Samson, describes his life, his training and how to do many of the feats, including chain breaking and nail driving and pulling. Also features writings from a fellow strongman and friend William Pullum. Story Of The Life Of A Great Strong Man

This is a new printing of a 1926 public domain book. The first 100 pages (approx) are written by someone else about old time strong men in general. It's written in a very old English that is difficult to slog through. Most of the book is written by Zass himself about his early life (he was 36 when he wrote the book). It is entertaining, and you get a real feel for who this guy is.

But I kept waiting for tips on how he built his strength....and waited...and waited. On the last two pages, you get a couple of hints, such as get plenty of sleep, and don't work yourself to exhaustion. Okey, Dokey. But he was selling a course, at the time...and couldn't give it away.

So...as a story about his early life? Great stuff. About training? No. Although, you did get a peak into how he performed a few of his strongman stunts. There is technique involved. So, I was pretty entertained by the read.

A great book by the father of Isometrics

This is a historically significant and very good book. Zass was teaching Isometrics and promoting them back in the early 1900s. As a prisoner of war during World War I he developed his strength by pushing and pulling on the bars of his cell and pulling on the chains that restrained him. The strength that he developed in this manner became the basis of two successful mail order strength building courses and launched his career as a professional strongman-great book!

Fascinating memoir...

As a strongman he was really amazing all the more so as he was not a big man, somewhat like Joseph Greenstein the Amazing Atom. The story of his life and remarkable experiences before, during and after the first WW make for fascinating reading. He also seemed like a good person which makes him even more admirable.
