About the Author
Enoch Arnold Bennett, the son of a solicitor, was born in Hanley, Staffordshire in 1867. He was educated locally and at London University, before working initially as a solicitor's clerk, but soon turned to writing popular serial fiction and editing a women's magazine. After the publication of his first novel, 'A Man from the North' in 1898 he became a professional writer and some of his best and most enduring and acclaimed work, including 'Anna of the Five Towns', 'The Old Wives' Tale', 'Clayhanger', 'The Card' and 'Hilda Lessways' followed over the next twelve years. Soon after the outbreak of the First World War, Bennett was invited to join the War Propaganda Bureau, concerned with finding ways of best promoting Britain's interests. He was in good company, as others who contributed to this effort included Conan Doyle, John Masefield, G. K. Chesterton, Sir Henry Newbolt, John Galsworthy, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling, Gilbert Parker, G. M. Trevelyan and H. G. Wells. Bernard Shaw knew nothing of the Bureau, but attacked what he believed to be jingoistic articles and poems being produced by British writers. Bennett was the one chosen to defend their actions. He served on a War Memorial Committee at the invitation of the then Minister of Information, Lord Beaverbrook, and was also appointed director of British propaganda in France. His spells in Paris added to his reputation as a man of cosmopolitan and discerning tastes. After the War he inevitably returned to writing novels and also became a director of the 'New Statesman'. Bennett's great reputation is built upon the success of his novels and short stories set in the Potteries, an area of north Staffordshire that he recreated as the 'Five Towns'. 'Anna of the Five Towns' and 'The Old Wives' Tale' show the influence of Flaubert, Maupassant and Balzac as Bennett describes provincial life in great detail. Arnold Bennett is an important link between the English novel and European realism. He wrote several plays and lighter works such as 'The Grand Babylon Hotel' and 'The Card'. Arnold Bennett died in 1931.

The Human Machine contains all that stuff which a person needs to know to have smooth relations with his peers and superiors. That is to say it deals with your self!!! The author teaches you in a persuasive manner how to get along with people in todays' world and thereby avoid many of the tensions/worries which you may have to face otherwise. The book is certainly worth buying.

A Muddled Mess

This novel probably contains the worst punctuation I've ever encountered, and if that isn't bad enough the jokes are lame and the story is disjointed. An example of the shoddy writing: For some reason, the author felt the need to augment the word Pennsylvania. I'll clean it up a bit by writing it Pennsyl-effing-vania. But as the reader encounters this hyphenated nonsense over and over again, the fact that he couldn't even get the state's name correct truly irritates, as he reversed the 'y' and the 'l'. Yes, we end up with Pennsly-effing-vania. My god, man, work on your editing, and then farm it out to someone who knows what they're doing.

Literary Adult Fiction

"No Mad" by Sam Moffie is a non-linear literary adult fiction. Aaron Abrams, a 40-ish high school English teacher and author of two fiction books, gets a call from his agent about a new book deal with a $100,000 advance. Rushing home to share the news with his wife, he finds her and his older brother naked and occupied on a float in their pool. Aaron makes a snap decision, grabs a few items and gets his dog and takes off on a self-discovery journey ending with his daughter's wedding.

Aaron is positive, upbeat, and cynical with a playful nature. One of the plot lines is Aaron's new book. It is called "Yearbook," and is about looking at several college classmates to find out what they were like in college in the seventies and what they were doing now, along with what lessons college had on their life and career choices. This device allows Moffie to inject political and historical commentary. Other topics are hemorrhoids, the proper toilet reading material, erotic sex, drugs, Newman's Own lemonade, empty nest, success, divorce, fatherhood and child raising, air-guitar, softball, the game Jinx, and financial security. Did I say Aaron was a teacher?

This entertaining and easy-to-read book was both humorous and serious. Moffie set up his character and the different sub-plot lines well enough to be able to discuss the many diverse topics along with the socio-political commentary. All felt connected. However, I think if he would have left out the three erotic sex segments the book would stand have a greater appeal. Still, Aaron Abrams is an interesting `hero', and how he handled the situation was unique.

"WILD, FUNNY AND TOUCHING!"

Sam Moffie takes the reader on an unforgettable road trip that's better than a seven-day-stay at Disney World, but is similar to Disney World's famous ride through America's past, present, and future. The main character is Aaron Abrams, a forty-seven year old English teacher whose life changes in a matter of minutes, after one phone call of good news, and one moment of watching his twenty year marriage go down the tubes. He was informed of an exciting book deal he couldn't refuse, offering him one-hundred thousand dollars in advance to write the "Yearbook" and the bad news was witnessing his wife and brother engaged in sex at his own home. During two moments of his life he will always remember, he decides to act with nonviolent behavior as he grabs his dog, and hits the road. As his road trip begins in Ohio and ends in scenic Niagara Falls, his journey becomes an incredible rambling, funny, and rambunctious trip that the reader will never forget. While driving on Interstate 80, the reader learns that Aaron is a guy who drowns his sorrows by becoming best friends with his golden retriever, how addicted Aaron is to the game Jinx, and his obsession with
hemorrhoids. As the fascinating journey continues, we learn about Aaron's quirk for Newman's Own Virgin Lemonade, the odd characters he meets along the way, and the rediscovery of America seen through his eyes. We learn about the pain he had to bear from the betrayal of his wife, the blow to his head from his brother, and the powerful influence of flashbacks from the 70's music in relation to life's experiences. Before the end of Aaron's voyage, we also learn that he is a nurturing father of three children, a Romeo in new romance, and his thoughts on his daughter's pregnancy and her impending marriage. The adventurous journey continues with sidesplitting sexual encounters, the use of illegal drugs, and aliens. As the reader takes history lessons during Aaron's new found freedom from New York to Boston, and Gettysburg to New Mexico, we are introduced to many bizarre characters. For the icing on the cake, the author creates the amusing events of the Crazy Horse Monument. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an adventure that's heartwarming, and filled with humor. Will Aaron ever find a place he could call home again? What shocking events did Aaron learn, while interviewing his fraternity brothers? Find out the answers in this unique, thought-provoking, fun ride. The author's down-to-earth candor in this fast-paced novel, packed with engrossing stories in a splendid plot will take you to places you've never been to, and make you crave for more. Does Aaron fall in love with his agent's assistant? Where did Aaron meet the nymphomanic, pothead State Trooper? Best book on playing the Irish Tin Whistle

I have tried and failed to learn the Irish tinwhistle before. I recently started again with YouTube videos and this book, and I'm loving it. I realized the problem before was WAY too many boring American folk songs, not nearly enough IRISH songs! This book goes into great depth about not just the instrument, but all aspects of Irish music and Irish tinwhistle style, including very detailed discussions of ornamentation. I don't feel like I'm doing another Suzuki method, but rather that I get to jump into playing real Irish tinwhistle right away. (Disclosure: I used to play recorder so I already have some of the very basic skills, but I can still say that the instruction on those basics is also excellent.) The author really, really wants you to play and enjoy Irish traditional music!

Copy A Previous Book Into This One. . .

What bothered me about this book is the beginning was so similar to another I recently picked up. So I was searching thru my recent reads and discovered a collection of stories bundled together by this author. The book is entitled Omega Mated (The Last Omega, #1).

So what bothered me is starting this book I was ready to call plagiarism. Then I discover both books I'm comparing were written by this author. So then I'm bothered that an author uses another book to set up this one. It's just not done. And I'm not talking about summarizing a previous book to continue over into another. It's changing an omega into a passive. It's the same opening where the omega and now passive is in the city, standing outside a gym and ogling the men working out. The same thoughts are going thru his mind as the other story and the conversation he over hears is exactly the same words.

I'm going to lower the rating another star because this whole thing just bothered me. A good author doesn't do this. It's what a teenager would do in copying a paper from a past class and resubmit it to a new teacher. Why waste my time with this? - Dan's Wife

Comprehensive charts!

As an energy worker, and over 20 years practicing dowsing pendulum therapies, I have to say that this is one of the most condense tools for pendulum work that will allow you to: 1- Detect the "issues" to be addressed, 2-Identify which dimension the issues are located (physical, spiritual, emotional, etc), and 3- the capacity to transmute the energy of the issues right after they have been detected. 100% recommended to all dowsers and anybody interested in exploring the energy world.

Must read book for every man. This book has changed the way I interact with my wife. After reading this book I can see through the behaviors to the reasons behind her tests. If you are married or dating or want to be. You must read this.

Great Read on How to Lead and Love the Woman in your Life

This book absolutely resonates with me.

The first book I read from Bruce Bryans was What Women Want in a Man which included ten characteristics of a nice guy. I found myself in about six of them. I followed that first book with Hold onto Your Nuts (Wayne Levine) and No More Mr. Nice Guy (Robert Glover). Those three books alone were instrumental in changing how I carried myself — with wonderful results.

This book builds on what I have already learned and have experienced to be true. Some highlights for me:
Identifies the three main test: Congruence, Compliance, and Commitment. Reinforces the need for us men to be our own men by living by your own standards and principles. He also writes about leading through vulnerability but keeping in mind that men shouldn't lean on women before we have successfully and consistently demonstrated that we are worthy of her support.

I cannot recommend this book enough.

my initial reaction to this book was pretty negative-not because of the author's explanations as to why women test. (I thought those were pretty accurate) but because of the advice about how to respond to these tests. I guess I'm changing my review because I don't know how these tests should be handled and maybe he does. My ex used to always give in to me, would do anything to please me, and I thought I loved that about him but...he's an ex. Maybe these methods are better? Anyway the "why" behind female testing is explained very thoroughly and accurately. I also appreciate the sentiment that it's not our fault (entirely). it's really hard to know when you're testing a guy. It's true for me that I don't usually know I'm doing it til the conversations over.
