Buy it. You will truly enjoy this version of Fitzwilliam Darcy

This story is told entirely from Fitzwilliam Darcy's POV. That is alone a refreshing change as it gives us much insight into how he feels, and more, how he changes to become the man Elizabeth will realize she loves. Each chapter is prefaced by a relevant quote from Pride and Prejudice which sets the tone for the action to follow. I loved this. I will read it again frequently. There is no sex, which sometimes drives JAFF and distracts from the real character development, but there is much love.
I would have given it 5 stars but I found a couple of grammatical errors that irritated me (one that I really dislike is using the possessive when the plural is correct). I am a technical writer and I am afraid that is one of my own prejudices.
I also like the cover very much and am guessing it is a tribute to the classic peacock edition of P & P. :-)

This book showed the strong, purposeful, Fitzwilliam Darcy. So many P&P books portray him drunk and sullen after the rejected proposal. This is the FD that should be portrayed. Loved the book.

While kind of sweet and the author does take a nice view from Darcy's perspective, however, there are several glaring inconsistencies which really bothered me, as well as her constant quoting of Jane Austen's original, using practically the whole long long letter of Darcy's to Elizabeth. There was very little original until towards the end, plus this was really more a novella length, so think the price is too high. I hope this author will try again and be more original and professional next time; she certainly does seem have potential.

The Stavacintamani of Bhatta Narayana (late 9th early 10th century CE) is a devotional stotra dedicated to the praise and worship of Siva and his power (sakti) who is responsible for creation maintenance and dissolution. The stotra is an outpouring of the state of the mature mind of one who practiced experienced internalized and lived this system of monistic Saivism. The quality of the verses and authors personal fame suggest that bhatta Narayana was not merely an ardent devotee but a learned scholar familiar with the esoteric secrets of the saiva philosophy and practice. Ksemarajas commentary is intended to reveal the esoteric meanings of the original devotional text while simultaneously integrating this work into the canon of nondual Saivism. His lucid commentarial style primarily focuses on translating Bhatta Narayanas poetic devotional verses into the terminology of yogic states and experiences based on the Pratyabhijna monistic philosophy. For example in verse 4 he states. The praise of the lord is nothing but the realization that the lord who is identical with this universe but appears in diversity is in reality non dual.

About the Author
Diana Wynne Jones was the multiple award-winning author of many fantasy novels for children, teenagers, and adults. Her book Howl's Moving Castle was made into an Academy Award-nominated major animated feature by Hayao Miyazaki. She received the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Married to the medievalist J. A. Burrow, with whom she had three sons, she lived for many years in Bristol, the setting for many of her books. Diana Wynne Jones passed away in March 2011, after a long illness.

Neil Gaiman is the Newbery Medal winning author of The Graveyard Book and Coraline.

Deserves to be a classic

Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones was an absolute page-turner. I was completely immersed within the first few pages of the book. It's certainly a unique concept: the book begins with the star Sirius on trial for a crime he claims he didn't commit. Found guilty, he is sentenced to life in a single solar system, where he will have the opportunity to put things right. If he succeeds, he will be restored to his astral position; if he doesn't, he will live out his alloted lifespan and die. The fates having a sense of humor, he's born on Earth as a dog. And the story presents a dog's view of life masterfully. The book was written in 1975, but is timeless--the humans characters could as easily move through this century as the last. There's an underdog appeal in the story of Kathleen, the human who champions and cares for Sirius as he grows. The daughter of an IRA terrorist, she is the unwanted/misused ward of her English relatives. Readers will likely care for this girl as much as the protagonist. I've read several of the author's books before, most recently _Howl's Moving Castle_, and find that this book, like that, is appropriate for young adult readers without being dumbed down or prettied up for them. I finished it in a day, and immediately set it into the "to read" pile of my 9-year-old son.

Good Book

I've read a few books by DWJ, with mixed results. I enjoyed this one. Cute story. Have to be hard-hearted not to connect with this puppy. Not a perfect ending (unless there's a sequel in the works), but then life isn't perfect, and seldom can we have everything we'd like.

And what irony! a great near all powerful celestial luminary doesn't have a life worth living; but a simple hunting dog does. He had near limitless power but could not see things as they really are. A skinny Irish waif has to drag him by his leash before he understands the use of force, or learns to control his temper. Everyone has to have the power of life or death over him before he discovers how to spot kindness, or how ice cream is more wonderful than tracking the mystic loi. The fuzzy dog brain is much better at spotting the real friends that the a super intelligent luminary ignored or resented. And a dog's best friends? - the cats.

The best book ever!!!

I totally love this book! The language is clear and well-understood, and the writing style makes it easy to acquire the new knowledge. Besides, the contents is filled with up-to-date information and a lot of interesting examples. A funny thing - the chapter on vaccines, which I am currently reading, seems to be more comprehensive than the same chapter in one of the leading books in immunology. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who will inquire about a good position on virus-host interactions, pathogenesis, and immunological aspects of viral infections.

Try a Different Book

Normally when I'm in a class and the material from the lecture just isn't making sense I usually turn to my textbook to see if I can piece together the concepts. Unfortunately, this textbook is probably the worse that I have ever seen and offers nothing other than mild to extreme frustration trying in trying to learn the material. First off the separation of the volumes serves no purpose other than for the publisher to make more money, because it offers no convenience for having smaller segments as it suggests. Secondly, the material is so poorly presented with things like: diagrams being presented and explained on separate pages so as to add to confusion, often the authors will make a statements only to seemingly contradict previous ones, and wow, the second book only (109.16 at my school) is made almost entirely out of an appendix for various viruses.

If my name was on that book I would be appalled that I even took part in one of the worst sources of knowledge found anywhere. The funny thing is, they recommend this material for anyone at the beginner level of virology. Good luck with that.

Couldn't put it down, literally.... The author obviously new Guy intimately and the revelations here are stupendous!

As one of my favorite songwriters of all time, this book captures the essence of what the man was all about and it's a treasure.

I'm ready for the movie but in the meantime I'll let this book settle in for a while...

Tamara has written an excellent book about a great songwriter and musician. This book is very good at telling the complex story of Guy and his relationships, both personal and professional. I liked the way she used the extensive interviews to let others enrich the narrative. The success of this book is not only, due to Tamara's skill as a writer, but also due to Guy's trust and openness with her. The book is a wonderful biography as well as a touching memoir of Tamara and her friendship with Guy. I have been a fan of Guy for 40 years and been fortunate to see him several times live. Having followed his music over the years, I enjoyed this thoughtful presentation of the person. I highly recommend this superb book.

Dr Lawrence Weiss is a board-certified anatomic pathologist and the current chairman of pathology at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California. He has published over 200 papers on varied topics in surgical pathology and hematopathology. He is also the editor of three books on hematologic malignancies and surgical pathology. In 2000, he was honored by the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology as its Young Investigator of the Year.

Great overall text for lymph node pathology

As a board certified hematopathologist, I would highly recommend adding this textbook to any practicing pathologists bookshelf. Not only are the images of decent size and quality, but each section is of reasonable length to make the book a quick read. Of particular interest in some of the rare entities, is a general "how I approach this" style of writing which gives the practitioner a sense of how to approach a case they may not have much experience with.

Very good reference for residents who do not see much lymph node pathology in their training - a great complement to the WHO heme book.

Good book, very easy to read. You can almost hear Dr. Weiss's voice as you read. Obviously not 100% comprehensive, but covers pretty much everything one would 99.9% of the time encounter in lymph nodes and heme. Wonderful!

Highly recommended

This is a fantastic book. The photos are large and very clear and the text is well written. Dr. Weiss goes through the various neoplastic and non-neoplastic lymph node disorders and gives a clear and thorough differential diagnosis, along with very current use of immunohistochemical, cytogenetic, and molecular studies. Additionally there are excellent charts for those of us who are more visually inclined. I would highly recommend this book to any pathologist in training or in practice.

Amazing Book and totally worth the price

Being a beginer in this field I had extensively researched on the available books and their reviews. To say the least, I am extremely glad of my purchase of this book. This book is true to the saying "A picture is worth thousand words". Great care has been taken to illustrate any equation/ concept with beautiful 3D pictures. This not only helps one to understand the concepts as clearly as possible and also without any doubt in ones mind. If you take any of the books written in the last decade or so on signal processing, I feel that authors find it tough to draw a line between explaining the basics rigourously and introducing readers to the latest developments in DSP. In the interest of making the book too bulky, lot is left to the readers to program and plot the diagrams using softwares like Matlab. This book is a classic in the truest sense and doesn't depend on any software for further illustration. After reading this book, it makes it much more easier to handle mathematically rigourous books like Proakis.
I have one comment though on the preface though, the author tends to say that reader can choose to read chapters on continuous time systems and discrete time systems independently. However, I found myself going back to reading the corresponding chapter in continuos time systems, after begining to the discrete time systems chapter (not that I regretted it :) ).

Very Well Organized. Excellent Presentation. Concise.

This book is the clearest statement of the core elements of both analog and digital signal processing that I've seen anywhere.
My copy is showing wear. I purchased it before Amazon.com was a gleam in Anyone's eye, and am disappointed to see that it is out of print.
If you're looking for an understandable statement of what your professor's been talking about, then GetThisBook, if you can.
Does it have any weaknesses? A few small ones, I suppose, but - compared to the competition - they're not worth mentioning.

Amazing book~!

The best treatment of Transform analysis anywhere!
This is an underknown/underrated book, but it destroys other texts. Peter has done an incredible job with a fully conceptual presentation, and amazing 3D graphics that really explain the material for the first time clearly. You won't find all these 3D graphics in other books!
Peter really presents the material visually, orgazing it with useful charts (not just a bunch of meaningless tables with formulas, like other books). His entire approach to organization is unmatched. You won't learn the material as well from other books, so even if you are required to use another book as a textbook, get this book as well, and make it your primary source for studying.

intruiging, scary, exhillarating, wonderfully moody

Campbell again shows himself to be a master of mood and atmosphere with a collection of tales of a wide variety of setting and tone. Studied and effective, understated horror. In fact, he accomplishes better than horror (revulsion at something that has happened) and instead achieves terror (fear of something that *may* happen), which is Stephen King's stated highest goal. Thouroughly recommended.

No one chills more with less than Campbell does.

When it comes to chilling examinations of the decaying mind, no one does it better than Ramsey Campbell. Whether the decay is literal (i.e. his mad killer stories) or symbolic (the supernatural stuff), no other writer can summon of the level of dread, isolation, and despair that Campbell can. Waking Nightmares gathers together stories from Campbell's early years (i.e. Jack In The Box) as well as his more recent work. Although some of the stories are a tad predictable (especially if you have read a great deal of Campbell's work), each is powerful in its own quiet way. I can't think of a better way to give yourself the heebie-jeebies than by reading anything by Ramsey Campbell. Highest recommendation.

Ramsey Campbell is the scariest writer of fiction there is. This collection of short stories once again proves that well known fact. A student from the H.P. Lovecraft school of horror, campbell takes the reader on a phsycological journey through the most sacred and untouched realms of our minds, the realm of fear. If you read one book of horror short stories this should be it, because once you've had a taste of campbell you're hooked.
